| 520 | |a The thesis attempts to explain the features of a new discipline, namely the “science of methodology” based on the contents of the book entitled Islamiyyat al-Ma'rifah which was published by the International Institute of Islamic Thought. This science is related to scientific methodological thinking, philosophy of sciences and scientific research methodology. This study highlights the foundations on which the science of methodology is established and shows how we can establish research with its relationship with other sciences. It focuses also on the logical methodological foundations and scientific methodological dimension, which concern, arrange and organize the relationship between the two. Depending on this dimension, the “science of methodology” plays its rule among all branches of the theory of knowledge, focusing on the relationship among the branches of the theory of knowledge, and achieves a scientific unity, and concern grounds among them. The epistemological structures have the ability to accommodate scientific unity with scientific specialty. With this approach, it is possible to deal with the problems of scholarly interaction with the West, i.e. by providing a standard procedure that contributes toward reforming the Muslims' international heritage and doing away with the negative aspects of the foreign input. And together with establishing a proper framework for the theory of knowledge and its various sub-categories, this study provides a means for explaining the common threads in all this, which in turns contributes to the development of the methodologies of scientific inquiry in tune with the development of the sciences and the continuous branching of its specializations. Another mean aspect of this study is that it shows the different levels of all sciences, including the abstracted ones like the “science of metaphysic-logy”, which includes the transcendental methodology. With the methodology, this science gives shape to the general scientific framework, the relationship between various disciplines, and the appreciate applications. It is interesting that this approach is also applicable within the framework of Islamic thought as evident in the work of Mahmud Shakir who managed to identify and filter the negative elements from other religions or civilizations through what he termed as “meta-method”. By focusing on “meta-method”, his study was thus as an example of the “science of methodology” at work. This shows the important role of the science in reconstructing and restructuring the different sciences and cultures in the scientific methodological thinking generally, and the Islamic thinking specially. This could be seen through examples of contemporary scientific projects and examples from the Islamic heritage in the past and present. For this study, the researcher uses various methods including the inductive, analytical, constructive, and comparative. | ||
