| Summary: | The purpose of this research is to develop a model teaching syllabus of Arabic for occupational purposes for the needs of the Malaysian nurses and nursing students, in specific the students of the Selangor International Islamic University College (SIIUC). In addition, it serves as an attempt to design appropriate lesson plans according to their Arabic language needs. Using the descriptive and analytical methods, the researcher has carried out surveys in order to determine the current status of Arabic language in Malaysia, as this information is vital in drawing the concept of teaching Arabic for specific purposes. The respondents are selected from Malaysian nurses of Putrajaya Hospital and the UKM Specialist Centre as well as the Faculty of Allied Sciences students in SIIUC. Questionnaires based on the Likert's Scale are used to evaluate and discover the various points of views. As a result, the findings reveal some important ideas in the aspects of teaching of Arabic for the nurses in general. Among them are the needs of the nurses and the students towards learning the Arabic language, the number of Arab patients in Malaysia, their Arabic speaking skills level of proficiency, the students' interest in planning their career in the Arab nations especially in Saudi Arabia. Finally, the study ended with the exposition of the research findings, suggestions and conclusions. |
