| 520 | |u Inflation is one of the issues economists have had to define in various ways because of the number of theories available to explain it. Because of this interesting nature about inflation, this study aims to examine the effects of inflation on the rights and future obligations with reference to the policy of Central Bank of Malaysian. Since paper money is vulnerable to inflation, the research examines the issue of paper money and the opinions of contemporary Muslim scholars with a view to study and analyze such opinions in the light of Islamic jurisprudence. The research also studies some of the mechanisms, e.g. indexation, which is used to alleviate or end the phenomenon of inflation. Hence, indexation and its various types are appreciated within the yardstick of Islamic law. The study also highlights some of the criticisms directed to this mechanism. Interest rate is also one of the mechanisms which some economists have suggested and deemed necessary to cover differences in inflation. Based on this, the study examines the issue of interest rate with reference to its compliance with the principles of Shari'ah. It later examined Overnight Policy Rate (OPR) which the Central Bank of Malaysia has adopted in its monetary policy, and which it considers as the standard among other rates in Malaysia. The paper analyzes the aforesaid policy with regard to its consonance with the principles of Shari'ah. Both analytical and critical methods are used for this research. The research concludes the study with some results and recommendations which would encourage future researchers to exert their efforts and explore the issue more rigorously. | ||
