Description
Summary:This study examines the origins of insurances and its types in Muslim history with focus on the cooperative insurance and its relationship to other insurances. It also discusses the development of the economics thought and cooperative insurance companies. The researcher has presented the scholars’ (fuqaha) views on the subject and selected two pioneering examples. The first example is ‘al-Jazeera Bank’ from the Middle East, while the second is ‘Takaful Ikhlas Company Malaysia’ from Southeast Asia. The study highlights the development of cooperate issuances and examines the contributions of the two institutions mentioned with emphasis on their products and contracts signed between companies and subscribers in the light of their compatibility with the legitimate cooperative insurance. It also underlines the significance of cooperative insurance and its impact on contemporary insurance and finance services in the Muslim World. The writer has employed inductive method by evaluating the opinions of Muslim scholars and the analytical method by examining their opinions and theories from a jurisprudential perspective. The research uses the empirical method to examine the role and contributions of the two financial institutions concerned. The study finally arrives at a conclusions that the cooperative insurance is an alternative of business insurance and that the cooperative insurances has been expending in both Malaysia and Saudi Arabia in recent years.
