| 总结: | The main purpose of this research is to evaluate the comprehension and expressions
text book which is currently used by the Faculty of Contemporary Islamic Studies in
the University of Darul Iman, Malaysia based on the general guidelines for writing
text books by Rushdi Ahmed Taimah and Mahmoud Kamil Al-Naaqah. Subsequently,
the researcher is trying to measure the efficiency of the text book in providing suitable
language practices for the students. The researcher has carried out a survey by handing
out questionnaires to ١٨٣ samples among the students. From this field research, the
researcher has obtained a few results primarily suggesting the inadequacy of the text
book contents to the levels of the students in general and as for the language practices
provided, it is in dire need for reshuffling and new development because the teachings
of the four language skills in comprehension and expressions will not reach its desired
goal unless the students can understand what they hear, speak what they think, read
what they see and write what they know. The main reason of the inadequacy is
probably due to the author’s lack of concern towards the basics and fundamentals of
language teachings to the non-native speakers. Based on these findings, the researcher
has come forward with a few suggestions and recommendations to decisively
overcome this problem and providing a guideline for a more effective text book in
teaching a second language.
