Summary: | This study strives to shed light on the topic of “Adjectives in Imam al-Bukhari's book “Kitab al-Adab al-Mufrad”: A Descriptive and Analytical study. The objectives of this study are accomplished by examining the adjectives mentioned in the book, conducting analysis on semantic connotations of the aforementioned adjectives and discussing results which show the usage of those semantic connotations. Finally, the researcher comes up with suggestions that may develop linguistic studies, especially in the field of practical Arabic grammar. The researcher adopted the descriptive and analytical methodologies, where she has given a full account of subordinations (at-Tawabi') and adjectives (an-Nu'ut) in Arabic language, as well as focusing her explanations on the rules that are related to adjectives, which are: derivation (al-Isytiqaq), plurality of adjectives, deletion of adjectives and discontinuation of adjectives. In addition, the researcher analyzes 135 examples of adjectives stated in the book “al-Adab al-Mufrad” according to their types and semantic connotations. The analysis also includes categorizing certain characteristics of adjective based on its type and semantic connotations. The researcher ends her study by concluding a number of results, for instance, affirming the existence of all types of adjective in terms of word and meaning. Even though the study affirms this existence, the adjectives that appear in the book are different from one type to another, especially causal adjective. This kind of adjective does not appear in the book except once. The researcher also concludes that understanding speech context plays an important role in determining the semantic connotations of adjectives while indications from the hadith contribute to specify those connotations. This study benefits the community to which it can be considered as a new appending in understanding the meaning of hadith. It will also unfold a new realm for practical grammar studies of prophetic hadith. |
