520 |a Parenting practices is one of the important factors that determine adolescent behaviour. In Malaysia, the literatures on parenting practices and academic performance have been widely studied, however these studies did not address the effect of test anxiety on the relationship between parenting practices and academic performance. Therefore, this study fills the gap by exploring the relationship between parenting practices (warmth and control) and academic performance with test anxiety as the mediator among Malay secondary school students. The study examines 1) the relationship between perceived paternal and maternal parenting practices with academic performance, 2) the relationship between perceived paternal and maternal parenting practices with test anxiety, 3) the relationship between test anxiety and academic performance and 4) the mediating effect of test anxiety in the relationship between perceived parenting practices and academic performance. The sample consisted of 300 respondents (mean age = 14.5) from Malaysian public schools in the district of Gombak. The instruments used in this study were Child Parental Acceptance Rejection and Control questionnaire (Child PARQ/ Control) developed by Ronald Rohner (1984) and Test Anxiety Inventory developed by Speilberger (1972). Bivariate correlations indicate a significant relationship between maternal warmth and academic performance (r=0.19, p< 0.01), paternal warmth and academic performance (r=0.19, p< 0.01), test anxiety and academic performance (r= -0.26, p< 0.01), maternal warmth and test anxiety (r=-0.12, p< 0.05). Lastly, multiple regression analysis reveals that after controlling the effects of age and parents' education, test anxiety did not mediate the relationship between maternal warmth and academic performance.
