Summary: | The issue of “loyalty and disavowal” is one of the most controversial issues in Islamic Creed debates nowadays. There are different paradoxical opinions among Muslim scholars on this issue. While some of them consider it as a pillar of Islamic Creed and apply it as a crucial factor in relationship between Muslims and non-Muslims, others refuse to do so and try to neglect it totally. This research aims to recommend a proper stand in this regard by clarifying the meaning of loyalty and disavowal in the light of the Qur'an based on “fī ẓilāl al-qur'ān“ and “Al-tafsir al-munir“ by using the inductive approach to collect data from these two books. The researcher further considers the comparative analytical-descriptive approach, comparing the views of Sayyid Qutb and Al-Zuhayli and the conformation of the subject with the Holy Prophet's life and contemporary age based on the nature of relations between Muslim communities and others. One of the major findings of this study is that the definition of loyalty in general, is the kinship that brings benefits and removes harm from people here or in the hereafter. In addition, disavowal means leaving someone physically, staying away from his beliefs, and denouncing him it in this world or in the Hereafter. Moreover since the two interpreters did not have a specific definition of disavowal, this research studies the meaning of loyalty from the two interpreters' perspective. Sayyid Qutb stated that loyalty means tying covenant and helping each other and does not mean compliance in religion. But, Al-Zuhayli stated that prohibited loyalty means asking help from non-Muslims, making cooperation with them due to affinity or affection, while disbelieving their religion. The interpretative sources used by the two interpreters regarding the meaning of loyalty consist of old sources such as Tafsīr al-Ṭabarī and Tafsir ibn Kathir, and new sources such as Tasfir Rashid Rida. To clarify the meaning of loyalty, both interpreters used historical sources and explanation of verses using other verses or verses using aḥādīth, except for the fact that the researcher believes that Sayyid Qutb did not use verses to explain other verses from the Qur'an in this regard. Unlike Al-Zuhayli, Sayyid Qutb derived constant principles and framework from the verses of loyalty so Muslims can consider it as guidance for their life. Unlike Zuhaili whose interpretation had been stated based on juridical (Fiqh) and literal terms, Sayyid Qutb had not taken these terms to define loyalty. Moreover; when Sayyid Qutb stated a metaphysical issue in which an authentic Hadith had not been applied, it did not describe the quality of this issue, while Al-Zuhayli explained the quality of such an issue in this respect. |
