总结:This study explores three crucial aspects of the "freedom of i'tiqad (belief)", according to the Qur'anic perspective. It presents a clear explanation of the concept since there are misconceptions and misunderstandings about it. This study is mainly based upon library research and follows the methodology used in analysing al-tafsir al-mawdu'i (the objective exegesis). The study found the following: one, there is no compulsion in Islam, that is, no one is to be forced to embrace Islam because faith is based upon conviction of truth. Two, Islam is the only true religion which covers i'tiqad and sharTah (system of belief and law), and that its requirements are easily understandable. Three, shari'ah enables the followers to understand the requirements of the Islamic way of life. Four, accordingly, Islam respects man's freedom in practising his or her religion. However, once accepted, Islam does not allow apostasy.
