Summary: | This Study analyses the suitability of five Arabic grammar text books namely, - - ~ - Matn al-Ujrumiyah, Al-NaJ:iw al-Wcidhih, Al-Nalzw, Taysir al-Naf:w and Al-Arabiyah Ii al-Nashi 'in, used in elementary level at Islamic educational institutions of the Four Southern Provinces of Thailand. The method used in this study is descriptive, comparative and analytical. The research focuses on the relationship between the syllabus and particular text book employed in teaching Arabic as a second language. This study concludes that: first, the content of all chosen text books is suitable to the level of study. Second, as far as ikhraj (appearance i.e. cover page, quality of paper, quality of printing, ,, - - - size of book, table of content and introduction) is concerned, Al-Arabiyah Ii al-Nashi 'in is considered to be the most effective text. Third, all chosen text books did not utilise foreign words. Fourth, Al-NalJw published by The Ministry of Education of Thailand is useful as it provides the student with local examples. Fifth, Matn al-Ujrnmiyah which has interlinear translation is less effective to be used as text books for teaching Arabic grammar. All in all, it is recommended that Al-Arabiyah Ii al-Nashi 7m to be used as text books. However to enhance its effectiveness, it is proposed that more exercises on ilab ( diacritical) be provided. In addition, it is also recommended that those who are involved in Arabic language education in Thailand to add more Arabic reading materials written by experts in the field. |
