| 總結: | This study analyses the meaning of freedom based upon Islamic teachings. In particular, it discusses the Qur' anic method of addressing the issue of freedom in general and the "freedom of opinion" in particular and examines the role freedom of opinion plays in bringing about intellectual unity that leads to the unity ofUmmah. This is because the objective of the Qur' an in stressing the "freedom of opinion" is to maintain the dignity of man and the unity of mankind. The study is based upon the textual analysis as well as a historical method and examines the role of freedom throughout the Ummah's history and its impact upon the unity of the Ummah. The study found, among others, that, One, freedom of opinion is a gift from Allah (SWT), according to the Qur' anic perspective. It is legislated to uphold the humanity and dignity of man, any violation is considered a violation of the sanctity of humanity. Two, Muslim's unity is achievable through the unity of thought in which freedom of opinion plays a central role. It is found that the Ummah was more cohesive and more united when the Ummah enjoyed the freedom of opinion compared to the periods when they suffered repression and tyranny. Finally, Tawhid guarantees all means for expressing one's opinion and that should be preserved towards achieving the unity of the Ummah. |
