520 |a The purpose of this study is to investigate teachers' perceptions about job ssatisfaction at the Matriculation Centre of IIUM. Satisfaction related to intrinsic factors (instructional performance, personal development and career advancement) and extrinsic factors (interpersonal relationships, working conditions, teachers' relationship with administration, non-teaching tasks and remuneration) were examined. The instrument used was an adapted version of a job satisfaction and dissatisfaction questionnaire. The questionnaire was administered to 147 teaching staff at the Matriculation Centre IIUM. A total of 99 teaching staff responded, representing a response percentage of 67.3%. Descriptive statistical frequencies and percentages were used for the purpose of analysing the data. All seven dimensions of job satifaction were analysed against individual characteristics (gender, academic qualification and ethnic origin) using cross-tabulations. The findings indicated that teaching staff were most satisfied with instructional performance, interpersonal relationships, and their relationship with administration. However, the results suggested their least satisfaction was with their remuneration, working conditions and personal development and career advancement. Another finding indicated that the variables gender and ethnic origin did not show much difference in the teachers' perception of the seven dimensions of job satisfaction. However, a slight difference was found in those with higher academic qualifications that teacher holding bachelor and diplomna certificates. As a result of this study, several recommendations have been suggested to make teaching profession more enjoyable adn meaningful in the Matriculation Cenre. These suggestions include more opportunities for personal development, more power and responsibilities to be delegated to teaching staff.
