Description
Summary:The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of parenting style on social responsibility of students. The study also examines the differences between male and female students in their sense of social responsibility. The study is limited to Arab students who are in secondary school in Malaysia between the ages of 11 and 16. Data were collected from 100 (male-female) students. The Parents Authority Questionnaire PAQ) developed by Burie (1991) was the instrument used to assess parenting style, and the Global Social Responsibility Inventory (GSRI) was employed to ascertain Social Responsibility. The study used the SPSS version 17 for the purpose of data analysis. The internal consistency reliability test was used to check the reliability of data measuring students' global social responsibility. The findings of this study did not support the hypothesis that parenting style has direct correlation with the sense of social responsibility. However, there was a high correlation among the three types of social responsibility (Global social responsibility, Responsibility for people, and Social conservatism). In other words, the students who have the sense of global social responsibility also have the sense of responsibility for people and social conservatism.
