520 | |a The growth of e-payment in Malaysia has been of concern to the government and the economy as a whole. This led to the introduction of JomPAY in 2015. The thriving of JomPAY in Malaysia depends on its acceptance and adoption by the public; both individuals and organizations. So far the World Economic Forum's Global Competitiveness Index shows a decline in Malaysia (Schwab, 2016), which JomPAY is anticipated to remedy before 2020 according to Peter Schiesser. In respect of the above, this study explored the factors that affect the adoption of JomPAY in Malaysia, using International Islamic University Malaysia as the study population and the academic staff of Kulliyyah of Economics and Management Sciences and Kulliyyah of Information and Communication Technology as the study sample/ respondents. To achieve the objectives of the study, 210 questionnaires were distributed and the researcher achieved a 71per cent response rate. The study used contingency theory to develop a model to explore the relationship between the adoption of JomPAY and the influential factors; security, trust, self-efficacy, government support, sociocultural influence, legal and regulatory framework. From the exact outcome which was accomplished utilizing SPSS, three out of the six hypotheses were rejected; H1, H3 and other factors were significant with the exception of government support. Trust and sociocultural influence had a positive relationship with JomPAY adoption as expected. On the other hand, security, self-efficacy, and legal and regulatory framework had a negative influence on the adoption of JomPAY, which were unexpected given the extant literature in this area of research. Be that as it may, with the above, future research on JomPAY adoption can investigate further to get a more thorough outcome and add to learning in this research area. | ||
