| Summary: | This research aims to explain the relation between words in the Quran and synonyms. It also explains on the causes of its appearance and the scholars' different opinions on synonyms. It discusses some examples of synonyms from surah Al-Baqarah and their semantic differences from verses from surah Al-Baqarah and other surah in the Quran to support the discussion. After showing the differences, this research highlights the existence of psychological meanings that could be derived after knowing the meanings of the words in detail. This research applies the inductive method in the search for some examples of synonyms from surah Al-Baqarah, and the same words from other surah for further detail. Through the descriptive approach, it explains what is understood from Quranic words and its relation to synonyms and the causes of its existence. The analytical approach is used to discuss about the different opinions of scholars regarding synonym, and analyse the precise connotations of these closely related synonyms, and derive their psychological meanings. The study found that it is important to choose the right words and put them in the correct places to ensure the exact meaning of the words because the Quran demands it. The different views on the definition of synonym is one of the reasons that lead to different opinions of scholars between proving the existence of synonym or denying it. However, this research shows that some scholars have contradicted themselves by supporting and denying it at the same time. This problem arises due to the acceptance or rejection of synonym as a whole. Therefore, the grey line is to support the existence of both, words of the same meanings and that are closely – related, and oppose the existence of words of the same exact meanings in the Quran. This research has shown that knowing the difference in these words has been able to highlight certain psychological feelings such as increase fear of the torment of god, or be certain of God's power, the occurrence of the hereafter, the presence of prophets in the past, and more. These psychological meanings may not be addressed by some or deliberately ignored by some because the precise meanings of these words have not been understood. |
