Description
Summary:Indonesia is a republic nation where Muslims as the majority of netizens have played considerable role even since the struggle for Indonesian independence. Nonetheless, the country does not necessarily adhere to the Islamic system, but rather believe in the so-called 'Pancasila' (Five Principles), e.g. belief in the One and Only God, just and civilized humanity, unity of Indonesia and democratic rule that are guided by the strength of wisdom resulting from deliberation so as to realize social justice for all Indonesians. The present study aims to uncover in detail the teachings of Pancasila – as the constitution of the state – from the maqasid perspective. This research is interesting due to fact that Pancasila itself actually has raised a hotly debated discussion in both politics and religion in Indonesia until today, particularly in the matter of Islamic values enactment. The researcher employed analytical and inductive methods particularly in the discussion of the concept, interpretation, origin and effects of Pancasila in Indonesia; as well as the quest for its acceptability and conformity with Maqasid perspective. The study eventually concluded that most Pancasila's values in both its theory and interpretation, according to the People's Consultative Assembly, are not in accordance with Maqasid al-Shari'ah. The democracy that lies under Pancasila in fact does not benefit the people, instead it merely acts as a slogan, formality and purely theoritical and meaningless.
