Description
Summary:This study examines the contributions of the Department of Political Science at IIUM in the field of Islamization of Knowledge (IOK). To this aim, the study begins by discussing the model of IOK adopted by IIUM. It then analyses the importance of IOK in Political Science as a discipline. The study surveys course curricula and outlines of undergraduate and postgraduate courses taught in the Department of Political Science, as well as the contributions of the department's lecturers to IOK. The contents of the various course outlines examined in this study suggest that the Department of Political Science has applied a comprehensive approach in designing curriculum by combining Islamic Revealed Knowledge and modern social science perspectives. Most of the course outlines integrate topics from both Islamic and Western perspectives. However, it is noted that the level of integration of Islamic contents also depends on the nature of the course. Some outlines contain significant IOK content while others contain comparatively less IOK content. The study also found significant contributions by staff members of the department towards IOK through conducting research, developing theories, methodologies and empirical studies. The department staff have published several works related to IOK in the form of books, articles and theses.
