Summary: | The study aims to identify the degree of the cultural compatibility (social, psychology, and academic) among the learners of the Arabic language who are non- native speakers at the Institute of Arabic Language, in the Islamic University in Medina, with the culture of the Saudi society. In addition, the study aims to identify the relationship between the cultural compatibility and the linguistic achievement among the learners. Stratified sampling was used to randomly select 311 students (n) from a total population of 979 from the third and fourth level in the Institute. The total number of 38 items were identified to measure the degree of cultural compatibility and its relationship with the linguistic achievement. The data was collected and analyzed statistically via SPSS version 22. Simple Descriptive Statistical Analysis and Multinomial Logistic Regression analysis were employed. After the data were collected, the findings of the study showed that the degree of cultural compatibility of the Arabic language learners who are non-native speakers was on the average. The results also revealed the presence of a correlational function between the cultural compatibility and linguistic achievement social, psychology, while there was no relationship between academic compatibility and linguistic achievement. Finally, the results showed that there were no significant differences in language achievement, attributed to the three variables: the academic level, age, and nationality. At the end of the study it has made a number of recommendations and suggestions related to the study as creating cultural program for the new students, which can help them to accommodate with the new culture. |
