520 | |a With the increasing number of users in an area that consists of femtocell, microcell and macrocell users, the data and signal transmission can sometimes be corrupted with the presence of cross-tier interference. This interference occurs when the femtocell, microcell and macrocell operate in the same carrier frequency. Therefore, an interference mitigation method must be implemented in order to increase the spectral efficiency and maximize the throughput of a wireless network. In this case, Dynamic Spectrum Allocation (DSA) method has been suggested as having the capability to allow higher transmission power according to location and smart sharing with licensed users (LU). In other words, DSA technique enhances the spectrum efficiency for the users within heterogeneous Network. In this study, a DSA scheme was investigated and proposed as a technique to reduce the bit error rate, which will, in turn, contribute to throughput maximization. The DSA method was implemented and tested for an LTE network configuration. To comply as an LTE configuration, the assigned bandwidth was set at a value above 5MHz, i.e. 10MHz. In addition, the multiplexing method for downlink was set to use OFDM and the SC-FDMA for uplink. Both LTE downlink and uplink communications were examined in this research. Comparison of performance for the LTE network configuration with and without DSA has been conducted and analyzed. GNU Radio, a free software development toolkit that provides signal processing blocks to implement software-defined radios and signal-processing systems was used. This is the software tool which was used to test and compare the performance of each configuration. Among the essential findings of this study, the bit error rate (BER) values and throughputs as functions of noise amplitude for LTE configurations with DSA improvement were developed and modeled accordingly. This study was conducted purely based on simulation approach and future work can be further pursued using hardware platform. | ||
