Description
Summary:The calcaneus is a unique bone of the foot and it serves various important roles and functions for from at various stages of human locomotion. Simple stance phase to heel strike requires the calcaneum to be in its perfect anatomical axis and any instability or anatomical deformity be it congenital or acquired from trauma, infection or metabolic conditions would lead to imbalance of function as well as disrupted biomechanics of the calcaneum and catastrophic results in the long run. Injuries to the calcaneum wound warrant anatomical repair to restore its optimum state however the basic understanding of the anatomy is vital. This study is aimed in understanding calcaneal morphology of the Malay population through the precise calcaneal parametric measurement via computer tomography. The data collected would be the basis for the average calcaneal model of the Malay population that may be used later for study of fractures and fracture fixation with implant and screws.
