Specifically, this study aimed to explore teachers' understanding of the ethics of learning based on Al-Zarnuji's views, to identify the ethics of learning fostered by teachers to their students, to identify the methods that teachers used in delivering the ethics of learning, to investigate the extent of the ethics of learning in the book Ta'lim al-Muta'allim are relevant to the contemporary context at Islamic boarding school, to explore the conceptualization of ethics of learning in the Islamic boarding school, and to know the implications of implementing ethics of learning among students of Islamic boarding school. Semi-structured interview were conducted with eight teachers and three students of Pesantren Lirboyo Kediri, Indonesia. In addition, observation and document analysis were used in order to triangulate the data. The data were then analyzed using thematic analysis and discussed by describing, comparing and relating to previous literature reviews. The results emerged from this study showed that teachers understood the meaning of ethics of learning and fostered the ethics of learning to students. Even though teachers claimed that the methodology used in delivering the ethics of learning is effective and the book of Ta'lim al-Muta'allim is still relevant to the contemporary context, the conceptualization of ethics of learning in Pesantren is not without challenges. The practice of ethics in the classroom might be different from the practice of ethics in daily life. Several recommendations were made for future research to investigate the extent to which other variables like peers and parents influence the behaviors and educational outcomes of the students in implementing the ethics of learning at school.
