Summary: | This study aims to build an Arabic vocabulary list and to determine the semantic fields for the words in light of the corpus study by categorizing them into their suitable fields. This study employs a descriptive-analytical approach in which, firstly it describes the corpus and semantic fields from theoretical perspective and secondly, it designs the Arabic Vocabulary List along with the classification of its semantic fields. This study selects its source from the corpus of Malaysian Arabic secondary textbooks which were prepared in 2014 and Southeast Asia Arabic vocabulary list which was published in 1994 in order to determine the semantic fields of the vocabularies. The first contribution of this study helps in the selection of suitable vocabulary for writing textbooks and exercise books. In addition, the vocabulary list is able to assist in the preparation of modules of learning Arabic from different topics. Finally, it can also aid in designing the language dictionary which categorizes the vocabulary into its semantic fields. The results show that there are 35 semantic fields such as; the field of body parts, the field of animals, the field of transportations, the field of family members, and the field of clothes, found in the Arabic Vocabulary List of 4800 words. This is an acceptable size of vocabulary for non-native speakers of Arabic to learn. |
