The research is based on the inductive and analytical approach in discussing the opinions of the two organisations and their attitude towards innovation and the celebration of public religious events, public recitations and collective supplication after prayer. The study reached a number of results, the most important of which are: firstly, the Al-Jam'iyyah Al-Muhammadiyah believes that all innovations are misguided while Nahdlatul Ulama believes that innovations are divided into two parts, the good innovation and the bad innovation. Secondly, the Al-Jam'iyyah Al-Muhammadiyah views that celebration of public religious events is non-devotional. Although these celebrations have been practised since the last three centuries, there is no evidence that these celebrations were prescribed or forbidden. This is why it is permisible in Islam and it is not forbidden with specific conditions. The celebration must be free of taboos, such as exaggeration in its glorification, free mixing between genders and so on, which are not permitted in Shari'ah. Chanting recitation and supplication after five daily prayers in loud voice is considered an innovation, because it contradicts the Qur'an, the Sunnah of the Prophet S.A.W. and the legacy of the companions. Finally, the Nahdlatul Ulama believes that the celebration of public religious events is a good innovation. The celebration is a sign of gratitude to Allah for His blessings and love of the Prophet S.A.W. and showing gratitude to Allah is encouraged by the Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet S.A.W. Unlike chanting recitation and supplication after five daily prayers with a loud voice, it is recommended. A number of Quranic verses and Prophetic traditions are mentioned as a reminder on its justification. | ||
