This experience was unique and fresh to the people of Afghanistan. The system, established in 2001, functioned for almost 20 years, but it collapsed recently with the withdrawal of US and allied forces in Afghanistan. Therefore, this study is essential to examine the knowledge, awareness, and perception of literate residents of the capital city of Afghanistan, Kabul. In this study, the quantitative method is adopted through a self-administered questionnaire distributed to 281 respondents from the literate residents of Kabul city. The data collected was analysed using a statistical package for social science (SPSS) version 28 and Microsoft Excel. The research findings indicated that the general knowledge on democracy among literate residents of Kabul is relatively good, but they seem not very much aware of the details about democracy. The Majority of literate residents of Kabul perceive that democracy may not be a compatible system with their culture. Linear multiple regression analysis was used and found that both independent variables, i.e., awareness and knowledge are statistically significant with 95% confidence in influencing public perception toward democracy. This research provides some suggestions and recommendations for developing a political system for Afghanistan, which is responsive to its people. | ||
