الملخص:The practice of al-tawassul bil-qubur (seeking help from saints when visiting their graves) reveals some of the heresies and superstitions encouraged among the adherents of the Quburiyyah Sufi sect. Asking for the intercession of the dead constitutes a doubtful practice that should raise the concern of Muslim scholars and their students. This study consists of four chapters and a conclusion. It discusses the concept of supplication in Islam and the Islamic position on asking the dead for intercession. It explains the permissible aspects of supplication in Islamic law. Also, it illustrates its different aspects, including the merits of visiting graves, the proper etiquette that needs to be observed, and the wisdom of such a practice. This study also discusses the teachings of the Quburiyyah Sufi sect, the origin of their practice of praying at graves in general, and in particular, their custom of visiting the tomb of Prophet Hud, peace be upon him. This study evaluates the evidence in support of such practices and also the evidence in rejection of seeking the intercession of other creatures besides Allah (SWT) to avoid acts of bid’ah (unlawful innovation) and shirk (polytheism). The findings show that the Quburiyyah practice of visiting graves and offering supplications to the dead is observed to be closer to Allah and to have their supplications answered. Furthermore, the study disproves the authenticity of Prophet Hud's tomb, peace be upon him, a popular shrine in the city of Tarim (Hadhramaut) in Yemen .
