Electronic wallet (e-wallet) which is a new cashless payment method has been developed to speed up various transactions and bring in a more secure mode of payment. There has been a steady growth in the offering and promoting of e-wallet globally. The Malaysian government has also established policies and initiatives to drive the adoption of e-wallet, concentrating on people who are from the low-and middle-income groups (B40 and M40 groups). Nonetheless, a slow uptake in its adoption has been reported in Malaysia. Efficient implementation of e-wallet significantly relies on the extent to which the people are ready to use it and their perception of it. Hence, this study sought to examine technology readiness of Malaysians in the B40 and M40 groups and their perception of e-wallet through the use of Extended Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology and Technology Readiness. As the ultimate goal of every government’s measures is to enhance the people’s well-being, this study intended to examine the possible attainment of subjective well-being through ewallet adoption. Data collection was conducted in five major cities of Malaysia and a total of 309 valid data were gathered. The results show that the respondents were optimistic of the new technology and tended to believe that e-wallet is somehow useful for them. However, insecurity did not present significant influence on both performance expectancy and effort expectancy of e-wallet, suggesting that the feeling of suspicion is not a concern when it comes to e-wallet adoption. The results reveal that e-wallet adoption intention was significantly impacted by performance expectancy, price value, facilitating conditions, and was followed closely by social influence. Subjective well-being was found to be positively influenced by e-wallet adoption as the users felt engaged in tasks and respected which would shape their life in a better way when using e-wallet. The results also show that B40 and M40 groups appeared to be somewhat ready to embrace e-wallet as it would lead to a sense of well-being if such a payment tool is useful in conducting transactions, able to increase the value gained, supported by facilitative assistance and peers. The novelty of this study is in relation to the radical change it brings to the knowledge domain where it integrates technology acceptance with the psychological field. 2020-09 Thesis http://shdl.mmu.edu.my/11097/ http://erep.mmu.edu.my/ masters Multimedia University Faculty of Management EREP ID: 10274
