Description
Summary:Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are significant substances of sustainable entrepreneurship. Many individuals in developing countries including Malaysia are hesitant to engage in sustainable entrepreneurship because they lack the necessary confidence and core abilities. Due to paucity of research, the existing literature has not yet provided sufficient explanation in the establishment of sustainable entrepreneurship in Malaysian SMEs. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to understand and investigate elements that will have an impact on the sustainable entrepreneurship of SMEs in Malaysia. This research builds upon the Entrepreneurial Event Model and Social Capital Theory by adding new variables (environmental awareness, psychological capital, self- categorisation, perceived behavioural control, and age) to the perceived desirability, perceived feasibility, propensity to act, social networks, and reciprocity to form a holistic examination on key factors affecting sustainable entrepreneurship in SMEs. Questionnaire was developed and distributed to 400 respondents (entrepreneurs from Malaysian SMEs). Analysis of Moment Structure (AMOS) and Statistical Package of Social Science (SPSS) were used to encode and analyse the data collected in this study. This research provides new and important insights for SMEs, entrepreneurs, employees and institutions through a more comprehensive and holistic examination of sustainable entrepreneurship. This study contributes to existing knowledge by discovering that perceived desirability, perceived feasibility, propensity to act, self-categorisation, social networks and reciprocity are crucial for building sustainable entrepreneurship in SMEs Malaysia. This study also serves as a foundation for future research that helps researchers and practitioners to replicate the research instrument in a wider context.
