Summary: | This dissertation is concerned with the design of robust time-domain equalizers (TEQs) for multicarrier communication systems. In multicarrier signals, a cyclic prefix (CP) is inserted between consecutive symbols to avoid intersymbol interference (ISI). In the event that the channel impulse response (CIR) is longer than the CP, a TEQ can be placed at the receiver to shorten the CIR. However, most of the existing TEQs lack robustness against impulsive noise as they were originally developed under the Gaussian noise assumption. This dissertation investigates the performance of various existing TEQs in impulsive noise channels and proposes robust versions of TEQ which can still perform satisfactorily in the presence of impulsive noise. |
