Criminology This study aims to identify the factors which influence getting involved in online music piracy and how they impact the piracy intentions. The internet has changed the music industry in many ways, from manufacturing and distribution to promotion and consumption behavior. Technology has made the music to move from a product to be a service. However, a serious side effect of this change is online music piracy by which millions of songs are downloaded every year for free without authorization. It is said that in the year 2002, around 40% of the music sold in the world were downloaded illegally, and this makes the value of the piracy market to be around 4.6 billions dollars. In the year 2009, the number of sharing music illegally on the internet was estimated to be 40 billion. The study of consumer behavior and factors, which contribute to engaging in this form of behavior, is necessary on order to have a deeper understanding of this issue and helping the survival of the music industry through effective strategies. 2013-06 Thesis http://shdl.mmu.edu.my/3867/ http://vlib.mmu.edu.my/diglib/login/dlusr/login.php masters Multimedia University Graduate School of Management |
