Photonics Three-dimensional (3D) Computer Visualisation (CV) is deemed to be one of the tools that architects use to improve user participation in different design stages. While 3D CV is widely used in the design process, there is still limited usage of this powerful tool in the early stage particularly in relation to maximising user participation in design decisions. Thus, the objectives of this study are to (1) investigate the extent to which designers can facilitate the involvement of users by using 3D CV in the early design stages for a private house, (2) investigate the use of different types of visual materials (VM) in the architectural design process to increase user participation in design decisions, and (3) study the influence of 3D CV as a tool of visualisation on participatory design in comparison to traditional visualisation tools (2D TV). This research seeks to extract information from the two main parties involved in the architectural design process, the architect and the user, in order to ascertain whether the use of 3D CV enhances user participation. To achieve this, a qualitative approach based on grounded theory is undertaken in two stages. First, a semi-structured interview with a sample of architectural firms is conducted, and second, data is collected from conversational dialogues between the researcher (acting as the architect) and a sample of clients. 2013-06 Thesis http://shdl.mmu.edu.my/6284/ http://library.mmu.edu.my/diglib/onlinedb/dig_lib.php phd doctoral Multimedia University Faculty of Creative Multimedia |
