Description
Summary:Organ donation is a method to treat patients of end-stage failure of organs by surgically removing an organ from a donor to a recipient. Malaysia has the lowest rates of organ donation from 1997 till July 2017 with 393, 221 people or 1.2 % of the 32 million population. Low rates of organ donation also indicate the shortage of available organ for transplant. One of the strategies to increase organ donation among the population is to improve knowledge on organ donation in the young generation especially university students. This study is conducted to determine the level of knowledge towards organ donation among students in the Faculty of Health Science and the Faculty of Accountancy in UiTM Puncak Alam. A cross-sectional study was carried out onto two different groups on 370 participants from March 2019 to May 2019. All participants were required to answer all items in the survey to determine the knowledge level regarding organ donation. Mean of knowledge score for both groups is determined where students from the Faculty of Health Science has slightly higher mean knowledge than students from Faculty of Accountancy. The results of the mean knowledge level obtained from students in the Faculty of Health Science and Faculty of Accountancy are 11.82(SD=1.33) and 10.97(SD=1.63) respectively. In conclusion, the result when analyzed using Independent t-test sample, indicated that both groups of the respondent have a high level of knowledge towards organ donation.
