Many projects that had been implemented, especially in the construction building in Malaysia. The construction industries provide many benefits of the countries, especially on the economic condition as well as it helps to generate the nation's economy. But, there are several firms that acted unprofessionally by involving the projects without following the standard requirement. Usually, the most common defect can be obtained on the buildings are cracks, dampness, paint peeling, corrosion and decayed. But, in these studies, it will more concentrate on a defect which mostly occurs in the hostel building such as defects on leaking, plumbing system, damaged at the doors and the problem in the toilets. Besides identifying the common defects, it also will focus on the identification of the level of awareness among the college student on defect reportings and last is to recommend the initiatives for encouraging occupant of residential college on defect reporting. The study area is located at four colleges in UiTM Shah Alam which are College Mawar, Melati, Anggerik and Meranti. The methodology adopted is through literature reviews and a questionnaire. The data are collected through questionnaires will be distributed over the students at four different colleges. Types of common defects and the level of awareness among occupants of residential colleges on defect reporting will be identified with surveys that has been done. The result of the study showed the tenants at four hostels involved are mostly aware in reporting the defects.
