Summary: | The purpose of this research is to identify factors affecting economic growth for ASEAN-5 countries, namely, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand and Philippines from 1980 to 2013. PP (Philip-Perron) tests show that all variables are stationary at I(1). Johansen tests and ECM (Error Correction Model) indicate that there is at least one stochastic trend among the variables for ASEAN-5 countries. FDI and export are significant in long run. Diagnostic checks indicate that model for Malaysia might be facing mis-specification error. VECM (Vector Error Correction Model) indicate that there is Granger causality from FDI and export to GDP for Malaysia. While, there is Granger causality from FDI to GDP for Singapore; and there is Granger causality from export to GDP for Thailand. ASEAN-5 countries have their own national development plan / strategy which emphasis on FDI and export for economic growth. |
