Summary:The objective of this research is to identify the examples of words of praises that would inculcate the spirit of learning and improve the academic performances of primary school students in Serian District. Eight respondents have been selected as research samples. Research method is more of qualitative in nature and data collections were made through observation, interviews and personal descriptions. Data analysis was made by means of content analysis. Research finding show seven of the respondents believe that words of praises could influence positively the spirit of learning. Meanwhile the other respondent believed otherwise. Research output has identified eleven examples of the words of praises that could influence academic performances and nine types of influences on primary school students in Serian District. The eleven words of praises were genius, bright, able, hardworking, excellence, obedience and pious, ferventive, able to recite the Quran, competitive, satifying their parents, active and perseverance. The nine types of influences were the feeling of happiness, feeling excited, smiling and • contending, improve the spirit of learning, the spirit of learning is exemplary, improved self-confidence, improved self-revisions, the feeling of always thinking of education, and motivated to study. The findings of this research contribute to the academic, teaching, motivation and the human resource development for future planning. It is hoped that future research would engage in other approaches especially in data collection. Future studies should also expand the scope of study to include more respondents as well as the use of both qualitative and quantitative techniques.
