The research scope of this study is Lisu women's costume in Nujiang Prefecture, Yunnan Province, China. The research focuses on the value types of Lisu costume. The objectives of this study are to identify the value types of Lisu costume, to develop a value framework of Lisu traditional costume based on Stolovich's theory of artistic value and to make recommendations for the sustainable development of the Lisu traditional costume. This study applies a combination of qualitative and quantitative research approach. Through the mutual verification of previous researchers, this researcher, and Lisu people's viewpoints on the value of Lisu costume to determine the multiple value types of Lisu costume. Based on Stolovich's theory of artistic value, by discussing the value attributes of Lisu costume to construct the value framework of Lisu costume. By evaluating the multiple values of Lisu costume, and linking the evaluation results with the value framework to propose systematic recommendations for the sustainable development of Lisu costume. The research finding is that the Lisu costumes have rich value and perfect value framework. The research concluded that the Nujiang Lisu costume contains practical value, craft value, aesthetic value, historical and cultural value, symbolic value, national identification value, education value, scientific research value, social value, institution and ethics value, economic value, tourism development value, collection value and ecological value, emotional expression value. The value framework of Nujiang Lisu costume is developed by matching the above costume value with Stolovich's artistic value theory. The result of Lisu costume value assessment reveals the true status of Lisu costume in Nujiang local life. The comparison of the results of the Lisu and non-Lisu costume draws the conclusion that the costume value framework is universal. Based on the 7 types of advantage values and 8 types of disadvantage values classified by the evaluation results, recommendations for the sustainable development of Lisu costume are put forward. This study implicates to arouse more public attentions and interests in the national costumes of the Lisu people in Nujiang, and hopes that Nujiang Lisu national costumes can be better protected and inherited. |
