Summary: | The current principles of journalism guide journalists to provide the best information to readers. However the emergence of Islamic journalism principles that emphasized on the value of justice and truth believe to provide a better framework for journalistic practises. This study will analyze news from Sinar Harian, one of the Malay daily newspapers in Malaysia, during the general election 2013. The study analyse Sinar Harian reports from May 1st, 2013 until May 6th, 2013 based on the methods of Discourse Analysis and Semi-Structured Interview. The framework is based on the sixth verse of Surah Al-Hujurat. The objective of the study is to investigate to what extent Sinar Harian adhere to the communication framework of Surah Al-Hujurat and how the newspaper adhere to the concept of ‘objective’ and ‘neutral’ reporting as well. Findings show that although Sinar Harian mainly embraces the occupational values of Anglo-American journalism practice which is mostly associated with the values of objectivity which are widely shared by newsrooms across the globe, the reporting also adhere to the sixth verse of Surah Al-Hujurat which is to verify every news that is being reported. |
