Counseling has been a critical component of MMT since its inception. Yet, there is no consensus on what methadone counseling is or how it should be practiced. The pharmacist variable significantly contributes to the therapeutic outcome, while communication with unconditional positive regard is the main curative factor in any therapeutic approach. However, no specific research has tested the association between UPR among methadone pharmacists and Carl Rogers' concepts about its effects on therapeutic alliance. This quantitative correlational study aimed to examine the level of the therapeutic alliance between methadone pharmacists in methadone maintenance treatment and its relation to unconditional positive regard in government health facilities in Negeri Sembilan and Melaka. Total population sampling was used to recruit participants for the study. A total of seventy-one methadone (N=71) pharmacists participated in the study, which was carried out through an online survey. Pearson’s correlation was performed to assess the relationship between the outcome variable, the therapeutic alliance, and the unconditional positive regard among methadone pharmacists in government health clinics offering methadone therapy treatment facilities. The results of the study show that the majority of respondents (74.8%) indicate that they are at a moderate level of UPR. The total score of WAI-T in this current study was 59.90, which shows that, in general, all participants were at a moderate level of the therapeutic alliance. Findings also showed that there was a moderately positive correlation with p = .571 between unconditional positive regard and therapeutic alliance among methadone pharmacists. The overall findings showed the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected, and the overall hypothesis proposed by the researcher is accepted. Based on the findings of this study, several implications and suggestions for future studies have been discussed in this dissertation.
