Summary: | This quantitative study aimed to diagnose the factors affecting FDI in Oman. The
problem lies in the weak and low foreign direct investment in the Sultanate of Oman. It
shows through; Oman's share of foreign capital inflows to the Gulf countries continued
to decline from 8% in 2002 to 3% in 2011 and then less than 0.1% in 2015 making the
Omani market a very small part of the global FDI portfolio. The study model included
(economic, administrative and legislative factors) as an independent variable, and (FDI)
as a dependent variable. The study also aimed to investigate the role of “foreign investor
satisfaction” as an intermediary variable between economic, administrative, legislative
and FDI factors. A questionnaires was designed; consists of (55) statements distributed
among the above factors. The study population were (800) FDI companies in Oman.
The sample of the study was (260) companies, where (300) questionnaires will be
distributed. The collected data will be analyzed using SPSS, the Structural Equation
Modeling (SEM) by (smartPls). The researcher uses the descriptive analytical method
in the study, to extract the averages and standard deviations. Empirical factor analysis
and structural analysis (path analysis) are used to measure study hypotheses. The results
of this study showed slew of findings. Significant of which was the existence of direct
and strong impact that was statistically significant of the Economic and Administrative
Determinants to Attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), on the satisfaction of foreign
investors in Oman. On the other hand, The findings showed there is no direct and strong
Impact or statistically significant of the legal determinants on attracting Foreign
Investors neither on their satisfaction to invest in Oman. The impacts of the Legal and
economic determinants were strong and statistically significant on attracting Foreign
Direct Investment (FDI). On the other hand, the findings showed that no impact or
statistically insignificant the Administrative determinants on attracting Foreign Direct
Investment (FDI) in Oman. Additionally, the study found statically evidenced mean
of the relation between the Investment Determinants and the attracting Foreign Direct
Investment (FDI) in Oman, whereas focusing on the Satisfaction of the Foreign Investor
a good indicator to attract Direct Foreign Investment in Oman. |
