Summary: | The study aimed to investigate the effect of motivation on the job performance among the employees in the Ministry of Municipality and Environment - Qatari, and to verify the impact of organizational commitment as a mediating variable in the relationship between motivation and job performance. The current was a quantitative study, which employed the descriptive analytical method by distributing a questionnaire to measure the study variables and its dimensions, where 589 questionnaires were distributed to the target sample and 476 questionnaires were returned, with a response rate of 81 %. After the data was reviewed, examined, and revised, the questionnaires valid for analysis became 436. For analysing data, the researcher used statistical analysis to reach the desired results by using the statistical program SPSS to analyse the primary analyses, and Partial Least Squares (PLS-SEM) software approach to test the hypotheses of the current study. The results revealed that all the hypotheses of the study are supported. It showed that there is a direct and statistically significant effect of both motivation and organizational commitment on job performance, and direct effect of motivation on organizational commitment. For indirect relationship, the results of the study showed that there is an indirect positive effect of motivation on job performance through the mediating variable, organizational commitment, and it was partial mediation. The study concluded that there is a direct and statistically significant impact of both organizational commitment and motivation on job performance. There also was an indirectly positive impact of organizational commitment on job performance through the mediating variable. The results showed a partially mediation effect of organizational commitment. Therefore, the results of the current study may have positive effects in terms of the importance of highlighting the role of organizational commitment and motivation in enhancing and raising the level of performance on the study population, which may generalize the results to all government departments in the State of Qatar that mostly follow the same culture and policies related to human resources management. Finally, this study recommends the adoption of new strategies and policies to raise the level of performance of the employees of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment in particular, and the private and public sectors in general. |
