| Summary: | This study contains the five Objectives of Shariah and scientific applications
mentioned in Surah al-Baqarah and verses from other Surahs so as to support and
explain the Objective, on the belief that Islamic legislation combines rational and
textual evidence in a unique civilized template. Tafsir scholars of the past have
discussed in their commentary of the Book of Allah the issue of Objectives during their
time. This study aims to present the models and methodologies of past commentators
in discussing reality and to benefit from the great legacy that they have left; then
collecting contemporary scientific applications that contribute to the realization of the
Objectives, each objective individually discussed; and presenting Quranic texts that
discuss Objectives aspects with scientific significance in the verses of Surah al-Baqarah
specifically and other Surahs that discuss the same idea. The research problem is
summarized in presenting contemporary scientific applications that contribute to the
understanding of the five Objectives and the approach to address the raised issue,
seeing that today’s reality is in dire need to broaden and deepen understanding on
the Objective, especially the occurrence of many uncertainties and problems that
require the best response and righteous argument guided by the light of Shariah. This
study employed the inductive, descriptive, and deductive approaches. Among the
most important results of this study is confirming that the Shariah does not contradict
science and life, and that it is possible to deduce the Objectives of Shariah, which the
legislation came to protect, by understanding the verses. Among the research results,
as well, is cautioning against excessively examining scientific applications and bending
the Quranic texts to suit the ideas. Rather, the Quranic texts are the foundation, then
reality matches them. In addition, textual and rational evidence has built a scientific
civilization and stood as bulwark against those who attempt to question Islamic
legislation and stir up uncertainties and issues. Allah grants success. |
