Summary: | Infineon Technologies (M) Sdn Bhd are one of the major producers of the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) device for automotive sectors which requires the product to fulfill its high quality demand since it is part of the vehicle safety requirements. With the high quality standard set by their customers, its vital that their final processes are defect free to ensure no escapee to customer.However,80% of the lots produced weekly are sent for retaping activity which increases the lead time of the production lot and increases the usage resources. Defects such as chipped package, foreign particles and incomplete marking are the highest contributors of the lots requiring retaping activity. This study presents the Six Sigma analysis for the TPMS Production line of Infineon Technologies (M) Sdn Bhd to reduce its high retaping rate. The objective of the study is to investigate the root causes of the defects, propose an approach to reduce major problem in these processes and validate the effectivenes of the action proposed. The entire study was conducted using the Define-Measure-Analyse-Improve-Control (DMAIC) approach for systematic
problem solving along with quality tools such as 5-Why and Pareto diagrams. The study succesfully proves that by using the six sigma methodology, the retaping rate was drastically reduced to only 20%. |
