Description
Summary:Housing abandonment has always been an issue in the housing industry in Malaysia. Many suggestions had been proposed in curbing this problem. In responding to this problem, this research attempts to investigate the recovering actions by means of taking over the abandon house which is carried out by the Malacca State Government and Malacca State Housing Department. This research was carried out based on three objectives, which are 1) identifying the recovering actions carried out in the process of taking over the abandoned house, 2) identifying the criterion taken into consideration by the developers before the taking over actions were carried out, and 3) identifying the problems faced by the developers, especially those who were involved in this take over actions. This research is a qualitative research and data were collected through interviews with the developers who were involved in the recovering action. The main findings in this research proves that the recovering actions by means of taking over abandon houses, has managed to reconcile a large part of the problem in housing abandonment. This is evident with the reduction in total rate of abandon houses in Malacca. Finally, some suggestions were drawn to enhance the recovering so that the actions taken will be effective in overcoming the abandon housing problems in the future
