Summary:The purpose of this study is to identify level, relationship, contribution of learning phase, the dominant in phase of learning and competency of trainee doctor during housemanship. Respondent for this study is 102 trainee doctors from Hospital Sultan Ismail. Data are collected by using a set of questionnaire. The collected data then analyzed by using descriptive statistic (mean, frequency, percentages) and inferential statistics (pearson correlation and multiple regression). The findings indicated that the level of every phase of learning is high except the phase of experience at moderate level. While, the level of competency intern doctor also is moderate. Besides that, there are no contributions between experience phase towards observation phase, as well as experimentation phase towards experience phase. Test hypotheses indicated the first and fourth null hypothesis accepted but in contrast, the second and third null hypothesis was rejected. The correlation test showed that all learning phase have positive relationship with competency. Therefore, the fifth until eight null hypotheses were rejected. Multiple regression test showed that conceptual phase have the highest ß value indicated that phase have a strong contribution towards doctor trainee competency during housemanship.
