Summary: | One of the reasons precast concrete products are not extensively used is due to poor production and supply from precast manufacturer. From the total numbers of precast manufacturer in Malaysia, most of them are export the precast panel to Singapore market instead to local market. A few factors that influence the demand of precast products are size of projects, government funding, level of standardization, expertise, design issue, transportation, cost saving, communication among parties and user satisfaction. In order to enhance the usage of precast concrete product in the local construction industry, it is important that the problems faced by the precast manufacturer be indentified and addressed. This study is carried out to identify the problems encountered by precast manufacture, the barrier of expanding precast concrete product usage and the strategic solution for precast manufacturer to expand the product usage. The main methodology adopted through document study and semi-structured interview. A total of 7 pre-caster was interviewed and the data is analyzed from the interview result. From the study, the problem faced by the pre-caster are less profit and order, high operation cost, inexperienced staff and workers and lack of knowledge about precast system. The barriers faced by pre-caster such lack of client awareness about beneficial of using precast system, lack of knowledge among designers, local authority not yet ready to change the building system, lack of proper planning and irrelevant procurement system. |
