Description
Summary:In this thesis a scheme has been proposed to maintain the temperature and humidity, in each of the rooms served by a central Air Conditioner (AC) unit, close to the targeted values, and reduces the electrical energy intake of the AC compressor. The upper limits of the comfort zone, typically marked at a temperature of 25 OC and a relative humidity of 70%, are used as the targets. In the developed scheme, sensor captured temperature and humidity readings from each room are compared against targets at selected intervals of time, and the corresponding differences are fuzzified. These differences are used to decide the fuzzy qualifier, which is decoded into a crisp value, for the change required in the setting of the thermostat of the AC. As a result, each room will maintain a temperature near 25OC and a relative humidity near 70% while the compressor will remain off for an appreciable period leading to a saving of energy. The energy consumption can be reduced from 198 kWday to 170.51 kWh/day with the mean of energy saving is 27.49 kWday. In one month the total energy saving that has been controlled with continues controls are 659.76 kwh. The advantages of the proposed scheme for thermostat programming are that it (i) is simple but pragmatic, (ii) requires for each room only a pair of inputs that are directly objective oriented, and (iii) leads to a universal level of cooling in each room i.e. a 1 eve1 that c an s uit almost everyone under various conditions o f the ambient weather.
