Summary:Teaching and learning (T&L) in Islamic Education subject adopted by Islamic education teachers (GPI) must meet high quality standards. The process of T&L must be attractive in order to attract students’ interest. This study focused on five objectives namely to examine the T&L components effectiveness among GPI, GPI’s self-quality elements during T&L process, GPI intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, identify the attitude of good quality students during T&L in the classroom, and develop an effective T&L component model of lower secondary school Islamic education teacher. This is a qualitative case study that utilized various methods of data collection viz. indepth interviews, observation and document analysis. A total of seven lower secondary schools Islamic education teachers, seven GPI administrators, 14 fellow teachers, and 14 students were selected by using purposive sampling. The findings were analyzed by using the N'vivo 7 software for the construction of the themes and sub-themes. Results indicated that there are eight key elements highlighted in the Islamic Education T&L process. The three major elements that encourage the formation of GPI's quality are personality, knowledge and practice, and skills aspects. In addition, there are six characteristics that inspire intrinsic motivation while there are seven characteristics for extrinsic motivation. For students, there are six good characteristics such as being cooperative, having interest in the lessons, obedient, high commitment, helpful, and respect. The main finding of this study is the development of the effective T&L components model for lower secondary school Islamic education teachers that consist of GPI eminent personalities model, GPI knowledge and practice model, GPI personal skills model, GPI motivation model, and model of Muslim students’ attitudes. A combination of those five formulated objectives generates three new research findings, namely an effective model of the T&L in school, criteria of high caliber GPI and model of excellent students’ character building.
