These new energy sources include so-lar energy. This shows that the government is very committed in developing the solar industry for the low-carbon sustainable development and also has an economic and social impact. In developing solar farms, developers need to submit a planning per-mission to PBPT before starting development as contained in the Town and Country Planning Act 1976, Act 172. Based on current practices in Perak, solar farms are cat-egorized as industrial in land use zoning. However, the development of this solar farm is a temporary land use activity that has an expiration period which is only 21 years. As the development of this solar farm is still new in Malaysia, there are vari-ous questions related to the planning permission application process. Therefore, this study was conducted based on two main objectives, which is study the issues of planning permission approval for the development of solar farms and to suggest im-provements in the process of approval of solar farms in Perak. The data collection method was implemented through a semi-structured interview and document analysis on nine respondents consisting of PLANMalaysia @ Perak, Kampar District Council and Tapah District Council as well as solar plantation developers in Perak. Findings from this analysis and interviews found that the main issues were in terms of land use zones, real land conditions, document requirements and no complete guidelines. Therefore, there are several proposals formed to overcome this problem and improve the process of KM solar plantations in the state of Perak such as the proposed land use type and land use class and make amendments to the land use class in the exist-ing development plan. 2021 Thesis http://eprints.utm.my/id/eprint/96360/ http://eprints.utm.my/id/eprint/96360/1/NurulAzwaAbdulRahmanMFABU2021.pdf.pdf application/pdf en public http://dms.library.utm.my:8080/vital/access/manager/Repository/vital:143194 masters Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Faculty of Built Environment & Surveying
