Summary: | This study explores the form, meaning and function of Batik Sintok (Cyntok Bhatik) as a form of visual communication language from its user to the general public. This study uses an aesthetic approach, denotative-connotative semiotics, and functional theory of art. This method is used to find out in depth about the existence of motif fiction art from several relevant scientific perspectives. This study aims to examine the structure or elements that exist in the design of Sintok Batik motifs (Cyntok Bhatik) and the aesthetic value of visual and non-visual symbolic meanings contained in the fictional art of motifs found. It also explore the function of both personal function of art and the physical function of art together with the social function of art. In order to obtain accurate interpretation of the object of investigation, the methodology that been use is qualitative analysis. The main objective of this research is to get the meaning of nine Sintok Batik motifs (Cyntok Bhatik) while the theory of meaning by Rolan Bartes' in semiotic theory or better known as bartesian theory. To simplify its meaning, the theory of visual aesthetics is used in first phase by dissecting the elements and structure of the sintok batik motif design, by obtaining visual and non-visual aesthetics. This approach has been used to analyze the function of the Sintok Batik motif design (Cyntok Bhatik) itself. Based on the research that has been carried out, it can be concluded that each Sintok Batik motif (Cyntok Bhatik) created has nine names that become the identity of the motif itself. The evolving design motif have various forms in robust shapes with plant or organic motif and geometric, rectangular shapes. Each design motif has an aesthetic, social, and symbolic function related to a philosophy of life. The symbolic meaning produced by this design includes religious, philosophical and mystical (sufism) meanings. Up to nine motifs have their own meanings and functions that can represent the image of Sintok Batik users (Cyntok Bhatik). |
