Hamid Sekolah Siswazah Graduate School LB Theory and practice of education The aim of the research is to gain the views of teachers and students on characteristics of quality teachers in six secondary schools in Kulim District. The research was done through observations on teachers and students who are chosen randomly. The dependent variable which is perception of quality teachers is measured through two aspects: personality and teaching. Personality encompasses friendliness, rational, fairness, leadership, sense of humour, strictness, caring and sharing, diligence, considerate, honest, respectful, self esteem, kind and sociable. The aspect of teaching includes time management, behavioural management, the discipline of the students, dissemination of the lessons, observation of the teaching and the feedback from the students through their teaching. Whereas the independent variable in this research includes the demographic factors of the students and the teachers like ethnic origin, streaming, number of students in each class, the location and grade of the school, the teaching experience, age, and category in service. Total number of respondents is 266, of which 133 are teachers and the other 133 are students of Form 4. Descriptive statistic and inferential statistic are used to analyse the data. Descriptive statistics like mean, frequency and standard deviation are utilised to describe the composition of the respondents and the demographic distribution of the teachers and the students. Whereas the inferential statistic used are the Pearson Correlation, t-test, and one way analysis of variance (ANOVA). The results of this research showed that teachers and students concuted on the personality of quality teachers. The order of importance identified by both samples is fairness, leadership, caring and hardwork. Whereas punishment, humour, strictness are not considered as criteria of quality teachers. From the teaching aspect, teachers and students also agreed that effective time management, behavioural management, process of the desseminating lessons, observation lessons and gaining feedback from the teaching are important for a quality teachers. Teachers give more importance teaching aids than students. Quality teacher are expected to help administrators to nurture students who excel1 physically, mentally, emotionally and intellectually. This fulfil the requirements of the world class education. 1998-11 Thesis https://etd.uum.edu.my/698/ https://etd.uum.edu.my/698/1/ROHANI_ABD._HAMID_-_Persepsi_guru_yang_berkualiti-_Satu_tinjauan_di_daerah_Kulim%2C_Daerah_Kulim%2C_Kedah_Darul_Aman.pdf application/pdf eng validuser https://etd.uum.edu.my/698/2/1.ROHANI_ABD._HAMID_-_Persepsi_guru_yang_berkualiti-_Satu_tinjauan_di_daerah_Kulim%2C_Daerah_Kulim%2C_Kedah_Darul_Aman.pdf application/pdf eng public masters masters Universiti Utara Malaysia
