Summary:The primary objective of this study is to discover the effect of instructional methods in teaching Arabic language on the acquisition of conversational skills of Thanawi Tiga students at the Sekolah Menengah Agama Atas Sultan Zainal Abidin in Terengganu. The study follows a close observational method to the instructional methods being used and the recently proposed teaching instructions in teaching Arabic by making use of digital video recording. The researcher then assessed the performance of the students in the conversational skills after the application of the new proposed teaching instructions to prove the observations. Among the results are: teaching steps and the newly proposed instructional methods correlate positively with the performance of students in acquiring the conversational skill and their learning responses and behavior. On the other hand, among the instruction methods which negatively correlate with the performance of students in acquiring the conversational skills are the lack of practice on the part of the students, lack of instructional emphasis to develop the students' ability, minimal use of modern techniques in teaching Arabic language to non- Arabic speakers and seats arrangements during class which do not promote participation among the students especially from girls. Finally, the study concludes that there is a correlation between the achievement of students and the chosen instructional methods in teaching students to acquire the conversational skills
